The Perfect Color

Have you ever heard someone say, "That's the perfect color!" or "That's a bad color!" or "What's the 'IN' color?" Well, there is no such thing! Choosing colors for your home and your work environment is deeply personal and these color choices can impact mood and productivity. There are many factors which influence our choice of colors: the part of the world in which you live and work, at which time of year you are selecting colors, and what touches or inspires you.

What you might have considered a "bad color" can be perfected by the right color combinations. Color success depends on how and where you use the color, what your tastes are, and what inspires you. Color expert Meri Stevens says, "Color inspiratioin is all around us. Filtering it is the key to creating memorable color palettes. Nothing will give you as much pleasure as finding the color palette that is 'you'."

Pantone named Tangerine Tango the color-of-the-year for 2012. A color is named each year and designers do take note of these "IN" (popular) colors. However, the only "IN" color is what works best for you, in your environment, in your life.

The truth is, as Scott Kravet of Kravet Fabrics says, "The perfect color is in the eye of the beholder."

Be Fearless!

Are you afraid of color? Do you dare to be bold?

Here is a great example of how to be fearless with color. Our client wanted to give her kitchen a simple facelift. We started by replacing the cabinet doors and adding invisible hinges, but we decided to take it a step farther. Instead of repainting the cabinets white, we made the suggestion that she take the color from the walls in the adjacent Breakfast Area and use it on the lower cabinets, while keeping the traditional white on the uppers. She was apprehensive, but, in the end was thrilled with the result.

Never be afraid to use color in unusual and unexpected ways. Steffler Design can help you overcome any design challenge.

Live fearlessly!
